More than money: the true story of brandywine oak private wealth

By Michael Henley, CFP®, CPWA®, CRPC®, RMA®

We founded Brandywine Oak Private Wealth with a clear mission in mind: to offer personalized financial strategies to affluent families who often find themselves short on time and resources to effectively manage their wealth.

It has been incredibly rewarding to witness the growth of our firm. We’ve not only broadened our range of financial services but have also seen our assets under advisement grow to an impressive $1.5 billion.

I want to share my journey into the financial services industry, the motivation behind my decision to venture out on my own, and the reasons why Brandywine Oak Private Wealth continues to thrive.

Inspiration for Brandywine Oak’s Creation

Growing up, I remember idolizing Tom Cruise’s need for speed in Top Gun. I also distinctly remember my Dad’s work as a CPA and his innate command of numbers, and was fortunate enough to inherit my Mom’s incredible work ethic and ability to connect with people.

Naturally, when it was time to chart my own professional path, I gravitated toward a career that combined the two. I chose to work in the high-net-worth, fast-paced world of private wealth management.

Starting out, I worked in mortgage underwriting and financial planning at a corporate level, where I was able to work with some of the biggest names in the financial services industry. The knowledge I absorbed from that experience continues to be a source of wisdom for me to this day.

Early in my career, it became clear to me that I could better serve families with a more customized, personal approach. I wanted to be in a position to give them objective advice. When you’re working for a big bank you are limited in the financial advice you can offer to your clients as it is always tied to corporate objectives.

Branching Out

Brandywine Oak Private Wealth was born in 2018 in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

My first priority as Founder and CEO was to assemble a team of credentialed financial professionals. In just a few short years, our growing team has become the #1 reason our firm is thriving.

Each team member has been able to increase their own level of professionalism to serve clients’ cash-flow and wealth-preservation needs. Our firm devotes 10% of its revenue to professional development so our team members can attend continuing-education courses, acquire more designations, and otherwise build their knowledge base.

As a result of our team’s professionalism, our firm’s financial services offerings have expanded to include retirement cash-flow planning, investment management, insurance planning, income tax planning & management, estate planning, and lending where appropriate.

My Co-Founder and Co-CEO and I believe that providing a large array of private client services under one roof is critical because it ensures clients come to us first when a significant event happens in their lives. This could include clients seeking advice for college planning, tax consequences from a financial event, or recommendations for buying a 2nd or 3rd home.

I am proud that our amazing growth has most recently earned us a spot on Forbes’ distinguished list of “America’s Top 250 Wealth Advisors” as well as “Barron’s Top 100 Independent Advisors.” There is no doubt in my mind that the wealth of knowledge and breadth of experience of our team members is an enormous contributing factor.

Planning Ahead

Going forward, our firm intends to add more planning-focused wealth advisors who put their clients’ needs first. We also want to make a greater impact on the communities our advisors serve by continuing to support locally based philanthropic causes like United Way of Southern Chester County and the Chester County Food Bank.

Families come to us to make a difference for them. Our goal is to give families enough cash flow to live happily ever after, and not worry about overpaying in taxes or what is going on in the market or economy. That is our #1 priority for each and every client that walks through our door.

We’re Here for You

More than anything else, we recognize the burden that significant wealth can place on families.

Our focus is to help you reduce the financial anxiety that money and all its uncertainties bring. We strive to mitigate or eliminate the financial blind spots that can distract you from enjoying what matters most to you and your family.
